Explosives Manufacturing Engineer

Essential Functions (include but not limited to)

  • Design and evaluate explosive manufacturing processes to ensure safety, reliability, and efficiency
  • Perform hazard risk assessments on explosive manufacturing processes, material handling, and material storage
  • Design loading, pressing, crimping, blending, and safe handling methods; including fixtures and tooling, detailed work instructions, process troubleshooting, and testing
  • Carry out explosives research to improve safety, process improvements, and problem resolution
  • Interface with production supervision and production operators regarding equipment operation, process problems, and process improvements.
  • Interface with vendors and auditors; including on-sight visits, evaluation and down-selection of equipment purchases, technical support and guidance
  • Participate in bidding new explosives business opportunities; technical writing, and conceptual process design
  • Evaluate manufacturing processes and methods for safety, product quality, efficiency, equipment utilization, floor plan layout, material flow, staffing requirements, productivity rates, DOD-4145.26 compliance and OSHA compliance
  • Prepare and present plans for manufacturing projects and coordinate deployment, including selection and purchase and/or design and development of manufacturing processes

Quality Engineer

Essential Functions (include but are not limited to):

  • Moderate frequency of heavy lifting (maximum weight 50lbs)

  • Will work independently and within a team environment
  • Will review contractual requirements, plan / execute projects from pre-solicitation through production stages, set priorities and monitor progress, establish milestones and effective schedules, and ensure deadlines are met
  • Support implementation of QMS improvements and/or third party registration activities
  • Will work cross-functionally and with customers and suppliers to achieve quality objectives throughout the organization
  • Collect and analyze supplier, customer, and process data using Six Sigma methods to ensure conformity and recommend corrective actions or improvements
  • Will lead and/or direct first article inspections and tests
  • Oversight of manual / DCC-CMM programming and inspections
  • Oversee / lead risk assessment and associated risk mitigation for supported programs
  • Oversee / lead failure analysis and root cause evaluation for assigned corrective actions
  • Plan and execute 5S and Lean initiatives as well as Six Sigma projects for continuous process improvement

ISO Coordinator/Quality Engineer

Essential Functions (include but not limited to)

  • Occasional heavy lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Occasional reaching / gripping requiring moderate manual dexterity
  • Coordinate cross-functional efforts to implement, validate and maintain the Quality Management System (QMS)
  • Coordinate collection and organization of data necessary for Management Review activities
  • Maintain and support the ISO internal audit system while coordinating and supporting continuous QMS improvements
  • Coordinate and support customer or 3rd party audit activities, including associated internal and external communication
  • Manage multiple ongoing tasks and priorities to meet established goals and objectives
  • Develop documents needed for compliance with the ISO 9001:2015 standard and provide support for update / maintenance of documents such as the Quality Assurance Manual, subtier procedures, work instructions and forms
  • Support project planning and execution for QMS evolution and ensure compliance with relevant ISO requirements
  • Support transition to and maintenance of QMS software and storage solutions, including training and technical support
  • Maintain historical records of documents pertaining to the Quality Management System and ISO compliance
  • Must lead problem solving activities, including organization, coordination and documentation through project completion
  • Review departmental QMS metrics and assimilate monthly trend analyses / summaries for distribution to management and executive staff
  • Identify and initiate SPC opportunities and other process control measures to reduce scrap and reject occurrences
  • Oversee / lead elements of risk management, to include FMEA / risk assessment and associated risk mitigation actions
  • Collect and analyze supplier, customer and/or process data for the purpose of ensuring product conformance and recommending CAPA or associated improvements
  • Evaluate and/or initiate quality specifications, auditing programs, 5S/LEAN initiatives and Six Sigma projects in support of continuous improvement initiatives
  • Provide QA / QE leadership in the form of coaching, counseling and mentoring employees

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or other technical discipline plus a minimum of 10 years of directly related experience working within an ISO, AS or equivalent QMS system

  • Operation of CNC machines
  • Manual machine operations
  • Ability to inspect and measure components using micrometers, calipers, part specific gages, pin gages, height cages, optical comparator, surface finish standards and other standard measuring equipment
  • Moderate frequency of heavy lifting (maximum weight 50lbs)
  • Moderate frequency of gripping/reaching
  • Manual dexterity is moderately necessary
  • Ability to manage multiple ongoing tasks
  • Daily use of math skills (decimal, fraction and conversion)
  • Ability to follow written work instructions
  • Load stock into machines and associated fixturing
  • Deburr as necessary
  • Change tools and perform tool offsets as needed

  • Will evaluate inspection results and determine accept/reject status of product
  • Must effectively communicate inspection and test results by both verbal and written means
